'gotta love that climb' |
What a day, what a day. Thirteen Pedalistas assembled for a glorious day of riding. Our route leaves the historic town of Ft Jones and meanders through Scott Valley to the Scott River. It was at this point that the group split into two. Group #1 of five riders opted for the Scott Valley 'Tour de Ville'. These five rode 40 miles and visited Mugginsville and Cheeseville. No canine excitement as is usually the case in Cheeseville. The group then pointed their bars toward the mining town of Etna which is the site of the locally world famous Lovers Lane. I'm a bit worried at this point because my wife was with this group and I was not. Anyway the Lovers Lane street sign was once again stolen. The return route was via the old stage coach road called East Side Rd.
Ok, back to group #2. Back at the intersection where we separated from Group #1, #2 continued down the Scott River Rd to Indian Scotty Campground. Here we turned toward the mountains for a forty-five minute climb to the Lovers Camp Trail head. We were the first to the top this season, this was evidenced by the remaining snow drifts in the road that had only been crossed by our bicycles. As usual we were treated along the way with many cascading water falls. The first to the top, good guess, Sig, had some companionship a coyote, two deer and a big, black and shiny bear. According to custom on this ride we must be snowed upon and once again we did not miss out. The descent was non eventful except for a ruined tire and one flat. Group #2 then followed the route of the #1 gang but at Greenview we made a left on Hwy 3 and returned to Ft Jones to end our 52 mile ride.
Well if you didn't make this ride you missed a good one.
