Wanted!
Ride Leaders
Thank you for considering being a weekend ride leader. Mohandus K. Gandhi tells us 'you must be the change you wish to see in the world'. The success of our weekend ride program depends on the interest and the effort that you put forth. We need members to step up to plate and organize weekend rides. You will find yourself well rewarded if you do put together a successful ride. It doesn't take much effort just email pete with the Date, Time and Place of the start of the ride. Also we need a short description of the route, the distance and difficulty. We will post your ride on the calendar page and send an email on the mail list. Below are a few of our standard rides and their descriptions, you can use these as templates. Also to ensure success talk it up, rally interest in your ride with conversations and announcements at our evening rides.
Keep watching this page as I will be filling in some gaps as time goes on.

Wailen' up Whalen Ride
This ride is a challenging 67 mile ride with 6,700 feet of climbing. The entire
route is paved and in fairly good condition. Once free of Interstate 5 the roads
have scenic vistas and are very lightly traveled by motorized vehicles. Start
at the Mt Shasta Fish Hatchery; ride south (rt) on Old Stage Rd; continue on
Old Stage south to right at the Azailia intersection; cross the RR tracks (for
the second time); at the Cantara turn keep left on Old Stage Rd toward Dunsmuir.
Take Dunsumiur Ave then make your way left to the RR tracks; cross the tracks
and river and continue south on South 1st St. Cross the Sac River and left at
Redwood Rusty's Trailer Park; take the 1st right at Rail Road Park Rd and get
on I-5 south for about 2 miles. Exit Soda Creek; left under I-5 and take the
1st rt toward Castella. At Castella, 2,000 ft MSL, once again go under I-5 toward
Castle Crags State Park. Pass the entrance to the Park and continue on this
road 12 miles to Whalen Summit 5,500 MSL. Filter your water from any of the
many streams along the way. This 12 mile climb has some very steep pitches and
is a continuous climb. After a short descent from the Whalen Summit go right
on USFS road 26 to Mumbo Summit 6,526 MSL. This road is undulating but generally
uphill. Once again water is available on this road but it should be filtered.
From Mumbo Summit descend to Lake Siskiyou and back to the Fish Hatchery.
